Campus Spotlight: Allie Ware makes a splash at the University of Richmond

Allie Ware in Tanzania

When I first began spreading the Maji video across the interwebs, I received an outpouring of support from friends and family.  I expected that.  They are, of course, friends and family.  What I did not expect was a wave of support from people who I had never met before.

The very first of these unexpected encounters was with Allie Ware, a student from my hometown of Milton, GA who currently attends the University of Richmond.  Allie spent the past summer in Tanzania, spending time with the local Maasai people before embarking on a trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.  During her time there, Allie experienced first-hand the struggle the local people faced in obtaining clean drinking water.  She told me stories of children tugging at her water bottle, begging “Maji, Maji.”  For Allie, the water crisis isn’t some far away problem.  She’s seen it.  She’s lived it.

So when Allie saw our video, she immediately contacted me to learn more.  Within minutes, I knew she had to be a part of our team.  Allie is now the pioneer of the Maji brand at the University of Richmond as a member of our Social Entrepreneurship program, and her first-hand experiences with the water crisis shines through in all of her work with Maji Bottles.  Allie has a burning passion to do good in the world.  Selling water bottles is just a front for Allie’s real mission: to give clean Maji to those those Maasai children.
